Herbst in the cloud
Herbst, Hosted on Our UK Private Cloud
Herbst is a business management system used by manufacturing and distribution businesses for stock control, order management, purchasing and financial management. Hosting it on local infrastructure creates reliability risks that manufacturing businesses can’t afford – production planning, stock records and order management are all mission-critical functions that must be available when your teams need them.
Blowfish Technology hosts Herbst on our privately owned UK cloud infrastructure, providing your production and office teams with fast, reliable access from any location. With 24/7 monitoring, daily automated backups, MFA on every account and ISO 27001 certified security, your Herbst environment is more resilient in our cloud than on any local server.
Production Depends on System Availability
When Herbst goes down, production planning and stock management stop. Our redundant cloud infrastructure and 99.9% uptime SLA eliminates this single point of failure.
Manufacturing Data Security
Stock records, pricing, customer orders and supplier data are all sensitive. MFA and ISO 27001 certified hosting protects this data from both external threats and insider access.
Multi-Site Access
Manufacturing businesses often have office, warehouse and production floor teams needing Herbst access simultaneously. Cloud hosting ensures consistent performance for all locations.
Supply Chain Security Requirements
Larger clients and public sector contracts increasingly require Cyber Essentials certification from manufacturing suppliers. Our certified infrastructure supports this requirement.

Common questions
Herbst Cloud Hosting FAQs
Will Herbst perform as well in the cloud as on our local server?
In almost every case, yes – and often better. Our dedicated server infrastructure is more powerful than the typical on-premise server in a manufacturing business, and we size resources around Herbst’s requirements including stock, order processing and reporting.
How do we access Herbst in the cloud?
Your team connects to a hosted Windows desktop environment via a lightweight client or browser. Herbst looks and behaves exactly as it does locally – the only difference is it’s running on our servers. Cisco Duo MFA is required at login.
How is the migration from our existing server handled?
We manage the entire migration – data export, environment configuration, import and testing – planned around your production schedule. Cutover is typically completed outside production hours to minimise disruption, with full testing before go-live.
What happens to our Herbst data in a disaster scenario?
Your Herbst environment is backed up daily and retained for 30 days. In the event of a serious infrastructure incident, our recovery time objective is 4 hours – your production and office teams can be back up and running within half a working day.
Who manages Windows updates and Herbst version upgrades in the cloud?
We handle all Windows patching, server maintenance and security hardening at platform level. For Herbst version upgrades, we work with you to plan each release, test it where appropriate and deploy it on a schedule that avoids your busy production periods.
Can we add or remove users as our team changes?
Yes. Hosted Herbst access is billed per-user per-month, so you can scale up during busy production periods or new site openings and scale back when demand drops. New users are typically provisioned within one working day.
