What is a Hosted Desktop?
Your Desktop Lives in Our Cloud. You Access It From Anywhere.
A hosted desktop is a complete Windows environment – your applications, your files, your settings – running on our servers rather than on a physical computer at your desk. You connect to it over the internet from any device: a laptop, a tablet, a home PC, even a smartphone.
From your point of view, it looks and behaves exactly like a normal Windows desktop. The difference is that it’s always available, always backed up and always managed by us – on infrastructure you never have to touch.

Why businesses switch to hosted desktops
Why This Matters
Hosted on Our Own Private UK Cloud. Not Amazon. Not Microsoft. Ours.
Many “cloud” services are just resold capacity from AWS, Azure or Google. When you use those, your data could be sitting anywhere in the world, subject to foreign laws, shared infrastructure and terms that can change overnight.
Blowfish Technology hosts everything on our own privately owned infrastructure, located entirely within the UK. That means you know exactly where your data is, it’s subject only to UK law, and it sits on hardware we own and manage ourselves.
UK Sovereign Cloud Benefits
Your data never crosses UK borders. No Schrems II concerns, no adequacy decision uncertainty, no complex data transfer agreements.
Ideal for finance, legal, healthcare and public sector organisations where data sovereignty is a contractual or regulatory requirement.
Our data centres hold ISO 27001 certification – the international gold standard for information security management.
You’re not dependent on AWS or Azure pricing changes. Fixed, predictable monthly costs on infrastructure we own outright.

Who It’s For
Hosted Desktops Work Particularly Well For
Hybrid and Remote Teams
Staff working from home, client sites or multiple offices all get an identical experience. No VPNs, no sync issues, no “it works in the office but not at home.”
Professional Services Firms
Accountancy, legal, financial services and consultancy businesses that handle sensitive data and need everything secure, compliant and accessible from anywhere.
Businesses Replacing Ageing Hardware
Instead of a costly hardware refresh, old machines become thin clients. The processing power moves to the cloud and old PCs get years of extra life.
Growing Businesses
Onboard a new employee the same day they start – desktop ready, applications installed, access configured. Scale up and down without IT lead times.
Regulated Industries
Finance, healthcare and legal organisations that need provable data sovereignty, audit trails and infrastructure that meets compliance requirements by design.
Businesses With Legacy Software
If you rely on older Windows applications that won’t run on modern hardware or operating systems, a hosted desktop keeps them alive, fast and accessible.
Common Questions
Hosted Desktop FAQs
What exactly is a hosted desktop? ⌄
A hosted desktop is a full Windows environment, with all your apps, files and settings, running on our UK private cloud rather than on a physical PC at your desk. You connect to it over the internet from any device. From your point of view, it looks and behaves exactly like a normal Windows desktop.
Can we access our hosted desktop from Macs, iPads and phones? ⌄
Yes. The hosted desktop works on Windows laptops and PCs, Mac computers, iPads and tablets, iOS and Android phones, thin clients and Chromebooks. Any internet-connected device with a browser or a lightweight client app can access it.
What happens to our data if a laptop is lost or stolen? ⌄
Nothing. Business data lives in our UK data centres, not on the device. A lost or stolen laptop is an inconvenience, not a data breach. We revoke that user’s access immediately and nothing on the device can reach your hosted environment.
What internet speed do we need? ⌄
Hosted desktop uses modest bandwidth, around 1-2 Mbps per user is comfortable for day-to-day work. What matters more is a stable, low-latency connection. We assess your connectivity as part of the setup and can arrange upgrades or 4G/Starlink failover through our Connectivity services if needed.
Can we install our business software, like Sage, IRIS or Xero? ⌄
Yes. Most Windows business applications run on a hosted desktop exactly as they would on a local PC. We install and configure Sage, IRIS, CCH, Xero, bespoke line-of-business software and anything else your team needs as part of the setup process.
Where is our data stored and who can access it? ⌄
All data stays in UK-based ISO 27001 certified data centres on our privately owned cloud. Access is controlled by MFA, user permissions and conditional access policies. Your data is subject only to UK law and never crosses UK borders.
